Upcoming Group Meetings

This group has formed from a merger and expansion of the old Modelling and Atmospheric Dynamics "MAD" and Physical Oceanography groups.

We use a range of computer models of the atmosphere and ocean, to help us understand the dynamics and physics of the observed ocean, troposphere, stratosphere and mesosphere.

Our current research includes the large-scale atmospheric circulation, ocean circulation and climate variability, with work on regular events and cycles and extreme events. We study timescales from days to years.

Our modelling and data analysis work is in collaboration with the UK Universities' Global Atmospheric Modelling Programme (UGAMP), the Meteorological Office (MetOffice), and several European groups. Some of the models we use are quite simple, while others include very detailed representations of fluid dynamics, radiative processes and chemical transport.

The group also works with colleagues at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) in their Middle Atmosphere Data and Modelling Group.
