The High Resolution Dynamics Limb Sounder (HIRDLS) instrument provides measurements of temperature, trace constituents and aerosols from the middle troposphere to the mesosphere, with a key attribute of high vertical resolution. HIRDLS will also provide key measurements of atmospheric aerosols and cirrus clouds, as well as unique measurements of sub-visible cirrus.

HIRDLS detects PSCs, cirrus layers and opaque clouds. The distributions of time averaged cloud statistics compare well to correlative data. Read more (pre-print)

HIRDLS is capable of resolving fine vertical ozone features (1-2km) in the region between 1-50hPa. Read more (pre-print)

HIRDLS obtains 5000-7000 HNO3 profiles/day. HIRDLS HNO3 are generally good over 64°S-80°N and 100-10hPa, with precision between 10-15%. Read more (pre-print)

HIRDLS News - 12 April 2011

We are preparing to release a new version of data. This release will be the 6th and enhances version 5 (T, O3, HNO3, F11, F12, cloud tops, and aerosol extinction) with improved spatial range, lower systematic biases and lower noise. Version 6 adds zonal means of daytime and nighttime NO2 and N2O5 and daily gridded stratospheric columns of NO2
