Other Groups with Mars Wind Tunnels

MARSWIT (NASA Ames Research Centre, California)

Used (occasionally) as Mars wind tunnel since 1976.
Used by several groups, eg. Arizona State University's Planetary Aeolian Laboratory.
Primary focus is Aeolian transport, but tunnel has also been used to test instruments eg Pathfinder anemometer & windsocks.
Open circuit tunnel in large (4000 m3) chamber, test section 1.3 m x 1.3 m x 13 m long.

Aarhus University / Mars Simulation Laboratory

Closed loop system, test section ~0.4m dia. x ~2m L
Focus is study of Martian aerosol (dust), adhesion & cohesion effects.

University of Washington's ISRU lab

Can recreate Martian diurnal cycles of humidity and temperature.
Small open loop wind tunnel, test section 3.8 cm diameter x 26 cm long
Features controllable humidity.
Current focus is developing techniques to extract water from the Martian atmosphere.
